Resguardarse del frío en Madrid

Although not as cold as other European cities, it is true that many tourists often misjudge the temperatures that Madrid can reach in Winter, especially late December and January. Luckily for all of us, there are also interesting places and activities that you can do while hiding from the cold.

Posada de Huertas is very well situated, as you can easily get away from the chilly evening temperatures by sitting inside one of the numerous pubs and cafés around Plaza de Santa Ana and the network of streets around Calle Huertas. One of the favourites among many theatre goers and the public in general is El Café del Español, the café just next door to the Teatro Español. Here you will be able to enjoy many delicious varieties of coffee from their long menu, as well as teas and some alcoholic drinks or hot chocolate.

Another seasonal activity is drinking something hot in one of the stalls in the Christmas market in Plaza Mayor. As Christmas officially finishes in Madrid on the 6th of January, you will be able to enjoy these seasonal treats until then.

In winter many streets kiosks spring up everywhere selling roasted chesnuts or churros, a local variety of deep fried dough in the shape of sticks, maybe not the healthiest choice, but will definitely warm up your mood.

If you are still cold, you can always visit El Corte Ingles before you return to Posada de Huertas, and buy new gloves, hat and scarfs!
