There are so many places to visit in Madrid, that the new tourist may find it a bit daunting. But thinking of Madrid as a big, cold and impersonal city is far from the truth. Although big in size, in its core, Madrid is still that little settlement that grew to become one of the mots culturally interesting and diverse cities in the world.

Posada de Huertas is in the perfect situation to enjoy the experience of walking around the very centre of Madrid, with all its places of interests, without having to take public transport. The old city is small enough that we can visit the highlights in one or two days on foot. However, thanks to its compact size, Madrid also enjoy a really great transport system. It is very easy to get around the various areas of the capital using the modern underground and bus systems. In summer, sometimes, it can be a great relief, public buses have air-conditioning and most important for all those adventurers who like to keep in touch at all time; free Internet.

However, Huertas offers the chance of some of the nicest walks in the city. You can easily walk down towards Paseo del Prado to walk in the central pavement surrounded by trees, stopping from time to time for some refreshment in one of the many bars and cafés along the way. When you get to the bottom, you can pay a visit to the old 19th century station of Atocha, now turned into an Amazonian greenhouse or just turn into El Retiro Park and enjoy a nature walk towards the central lake.

In the lake there are row boats that you can hire and many other entertainments in the shape of street performers, children shows, painters, card readers and even ducks to feed if you wish.

A walk in this urban park is a great way to slow down the pace and forget for five minutes that you actually are in the centre of one of the most exciting cities in the world.
