The cheapest bars in Madrid

We will not go into a debate about whether money is key to happiness or not but what is clear is that in these days of economic recession we are glad to find places that offer good products at low prices. Let’s go over some of those places that you can almost have dinner with what they give you with a couple of beers.

tapas madridA trendy low-cost bar among young people is El Palentino on Calle Pez, in the heart of Malasaña. It is one of those bars that has been there forever and that has a local feel to it, with mixed drinks at prices that have remained the same for years. Also cheap is Pequeños Placeres, on Calle Mejía Lequerica, 4 (Tribunal), where beers and drinks are reasonably priced in a nice and pleasant atmosphere.

And while we are on the subject of drinks, there is a bar whose name says it all: The Low Cost Drinks Bar. Close to Moncloa and directed at students, it offers mixed drinks at 4 euros and beers for less than 1 euro!

In the area of Santo Domingo, Bar Los Amigos (Calle Navas de Tolosa, 7) is another good place to start the night in. With a large beer they serve you generous tapas, albeit not as large as the ones in El Tigre, in Chueca, famous for its abundant extra rations. However, to eat you have to suffer because it is always full.

And one last recommendation: La Blanca Paloma (Calle Espíritu Santo, 21, Malasaña). An ideal place to go with a group and on a budget: abundant tapas with beers and random offers of gin and tonics at irresistible prices.

You can enjoy them with your friends from here, with the ones you meet at the hostel or even as something to do after you take part in some of the fun activities that we organise with our guests.
