Drinking craft beer in Madrid

Quality beers, the home brewed kind, have arrived in Madrid and are here to stay. Not only is the number of craft beers increasing but also the places where they serve it. One of the latest to open its doors has been Bee Beer Madrid, located in the heart of Chueca, on Calle Augusto Figueroa, 30. They serve beer and cheese as well as some cold cuts such as boar meat. They make their own beer with the support of a large brewery and also import the most interesting bottles from around the world, such as Founders Brewing from Michigan. The bar, made of wood, is pleasant and cosy, particularly in winter.

When you visit Malasaña, don’t miss out on visiting The Stuyck and Co., on Calle Corredera Alta de San Pablo. Here, they have 14 pumps of the best craft beer, directly from the barrel. The bartenders will help you choose the best one for you, such is the huge choice. They go fantastically well with the popular chicken wings served here or with burgers or Cajun mussels.

In Huertas, we highly recommend Brew Wild Pizza Bar, located on the emblematic Calle Echegaray (23). Here, they serve a simple option: beer + pizza, but the good kind. The bar also has a special something about it since it was built inside ancient caves. This is an excellent, no-frills place to have dinner (although you will have a hard time choosing among the 15 different beers) from where you will leave with an excellent taste in your mouth for just 20 euros per person.

If you want to try something local, go for Madriz Luchana, a beer created in 2015 and made with the finest ingredients; La Cibeles or La Virgen, the latter made for stout lovers. You can buy them in shops such as Más que Cervezas, on Calle del León, 32, which sells hundreds of international beers. Opposite is Licorlandia, which despite specialising in wine still sells some local beers.
