Beermad: the great craft beer event

Barely five years ago, the beer debate only included Mahou, Águila or Estrella Galicia. Nowadays, luckily, the choice of beers has increased massively in Madrid, opening the doors to the world of craft beer, an industry which is clearly growing not just in quantity but also in popularity. Beermad is the perfect example of this, an event which encompasses interest in beer and a chance to try different tasty options.

Where? At Caja Mágica, in Usera, which you can get to by metro (Line 3, San Fermín-Orcasur) or by bus (23, 78, 123, 180 and T32). When? June 8-10 (check timetables and further details here). Day tickets cost 5 euros and a 3-day pass costs 8 euros. With them, you will have access to over 150 types of beer presented by experts, tastings and workshops, as well as to a large number of food trucks which will be selling different types of cuisine.

If you still want more beer, in the centre of Madrid there are many different places where beer is king. Calle Cardenal Cisneros is perhaps the street with the most breweries in Madrid, where you can find La Casa de las Cervezas, Oldenburg, The Beer Garden, L’Europe and Madrid Hop Republic, a modern, sober and refined bar with plenty of character which serves craft beer made by themselves accompanied by a sophisticated menu of Southeast Asian cuisine. They have three beers on offer: Luchana, Arapiles and Chamberí, as a tribute to the district they call home.

Another place you should try is Kloster, also on Cardenal Cisneros at number 25. This is a simple-ish bar but by no means less attractive, despite having its Christmas decorations up all year long. Its Erdinger beer served in a tall glass, like the World Cup, is glorious in summer, ideal to combine with some of its sausages or hearty food options.
