The leading British urban guide magazine Time Out has recently surveyed over 27,000 people in order to find the 10 best neighbourhoods in the world. And one of the chosen neighbourhoods was in Madrid. Do you want to know which one?

The lucky neighbourhood is the lively and diverse Embajadores. In 2018, it made it to first place. It has dropped to ninth position in 2019 but, none the less, it is still in the top ten. We’ll take a trip around the neighbourhood to discover the reasons why it has won over the British hearts.

Embajadores is a multicultural neighbourhood and one of the six neighbourhoods that make up the Centro district in Madrid. It offers an extensive selection of day and night-time activities and if you’re planning a visit, here are some of the places you simply mustn’t miss:

Mercado Antón Martín

This market is located near to Atocha Railway Station. Here we find a wide range of fresh products and small food stands serving world foods (Colombia, Mexico, Japan, among others). There is even a flamenco school.

The old Escuelas Pías Library

Embajadores

In Embajadores, it’s possible to read and study in a church, namely the old Escuelas Pías church. It is now a centre associated with UNED (National Distance Education University) and one of the most recognisable areas of the neighbourhood.

Plaza del Doctor Fourquet

Under the slogan “this is a plaza” we find much more than just a city plaza here. It’s an urban allotment with a children’s playground that is completely managed by the neighbours themselves. Their goal was to create a space where their children could play in contact with nature in the heart of the city.

A large cultural offering

We find a large number of theatrical spaces in Embajadores . Some of the most well-known include Teatro Apolo, popular for its musicals, concerts and large theatrical productions; and Teatro Valle-Inclán, where you can watch the main performances by the Centro Dramático Nacional theatre company.

Other cultural sites that can be found here include Museo Reina Sofía, La Casa Encendida and La Tabacalera

This is just a small example of what can be found in this neighbourhood which captivates all those who visit it. To discover its many charms for yourself, don’t miss the our offers at hostel La Posada de Huertas, in the heart of the capital.
